The Art of Ray Moore

Ray Moore's changes

With the change in style comes an almost complete loss of the use of the heavy shading on the Phantom himself. Light shading is still used in occasional facial close-ups but not very often.

We also see the Phantom begin to bulk up and take on a more solid, muscular appearance. Moore began using thicker unbroken outlines, coupled with the loss of quite a lot of detail from the other characters' faces in particular. The Phantom becomes less shadowy and a more clearly defined figure. Almost by implication of the cleaner look of the art, the feel of the character seems more certain.
